Curious about the quiet rhythm of fly fishing, but not sure where to start? This is your invitation to learn.
The Kinfolk Hunting Collective is gathering our community for Fly Fishing 101, a hands-on introduction to the art and joy of casting a line. This isn't about being a perfect angler; it's about finding your flow, connecting with the water, and sharing time with good people.
This is a space built for you. We are intentionally creating a welcoming environment for communities of color, women, and queer folks who are curious about fly fishing. If you've ever felt like a guest in the outdoors, know that here, you are kin. We're honored to host this day alongside our friends at Outdoor Afro, Brown Folks Fishing, and Trout Unlimited NYC.
Together, we’ll explore the essentials in a relaxed, hands-on way. Feel free to rotate through our learning stations:
The Art of the Cast: Get a feel for the rhythm and grace of casting a fly rod with friendly, hands-on instruction.
Knots: Learn the simple, strong knots that connect you to the fish.
Reading the Water: A friendly chat about local fish biology, what they eat, entomology, and the gear that brings it all together.
Fly Tying: We'll guide you as you tie your very first fly.
Your Pace, Your Day This isn’t a rigid class. It’s a day to connect and learn at your own pace. Drop in for one station or stay for them all—we’re just happy to have you. For those who want to try their luck, you'll have a chance to fish for local panfish (a valid NYS fishing license is required to fish).
