Turkey Hunting 101
There is nothing quite like the first time you hear a gobble break the silence of a spring morning.
The spring woods can feel like a mystery, especially when you’re trying to track down a wild turkey for the first time. We’re here to help you decode it. This evening is designed to take the guesswork out of your first season, providing a clear roadmap from curiosity to your first sunrise in the field. Join us to build the skills and community you need to head into the woods with confidence this spring.
Amawalk / Muscoot River Arbor Day Tree Planting
The land and waters provide for us, and Arbor Day is our chance to return the favor.
Join the Kinfolk Hunting Collective and NYC Trout Unlimited on April 25th for an Arbor Day Tree Planting along the banks of the Amawalk / Muscoot River. We’re excited to get our hands into the dirt to help protect these vital waterways.
By planting native trees, we aren't just putting roots in the ground; we are preventing erosion, cooling the water, and ensuring that our local wild-trout streams remain healthy for generations to come.
Turkey Camp 2026
There is a unique woodsmanship required to sit still in the spring timber and wait for the first gobble to break the silence—a skill traditionally passed down through closed circles. At Kinfolk Hunting Collective, we are committed to sharing that heritage with those who haven’t yet had an invitation to the woods. We are thrilled to announce our Fourth Annual Turkey Hunt, a weekend dedicated to fostering kinship, building skills, and deepening our connection to the land and our food.
This year, we are welcoming ten mentees to join ten experienced mentors for an immersive, three-day journey into the heart of New York’s turkey season. Whether you’ve never held a shotgun or you’re looking to build your confidence in the field, this weekend is designed for you to learn at your own pace in a space built on mutual respect and safety.
Spring Sporting Clays 2026
Learning to handle a firearm can feel like a tall mountain to climb, especially if you didn’t grow up in a hunting household. At Kinfolk Hunting Collective, we believe that building confidence with a shotgun should happen in a space where you feel supported, respected, and safe.
Join us for a day of sporting clays. Whether you’ve never held a shotgun before or you're looking to shake off the rust before the next season, this session is designed for you.
While we are here to learn, make no mistake—sporting clays is incredibly fun. Often described as "golf with a shotgun," it’s a dynamic, fast-paced way to spend a day in the woods. There’s a unique thrill in tracking a clay as it flies through the air and the satisfying "crunch" when you make a solid hit. We’ll be walking the course together, cheering each other on, and enjoying the camaraderie that makes this community so special.
Community Celebration
Join your fellow Kinfolk for an evening of connection and celebration. We’re leaving the woods for a night out to share a drink, swap stories, and support the future of inclusive hunting and conservation.

Late Season Deer Hunt
Every hunter has a story about their first time in the woods—the quiet morning, the shared knowledge, the first connection to their harvest. This event is designed to be the beginning of your story. Join the Kinfolk Hunting Collective for an immersive, community-focused introduction to deer hunting in the beautiful Albany region of New York.
This is more than a hunt; it's a holistic learning experience. We will gather together in a shared house where we’ll build community, share meals, and learn side-by-side. Throughout the weekend, our experienced mentors will guide you through every aspect of the deer hunting tradition. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive, welcoming, and empowering introduction for the brand-new hunter.
Long Island Rut Deer Hunt
For the deer hunter, there is no time more alive in the woods than during the white-tailed deer rut. This timeless, powerful ritual fills the forest with the sounds and signs of the chase, offering a unique chance to witness deer during their breeding season when they are much more active and visible. This event is an invitation to experience that magic—a real-world hunt in a supportive environment, guided by experienced mentors from the Kinfolk community.
We invite ten mentee-and-mentor pairs to join us for an unforgettable hunting experience on the historic and beautiful Mashomack Preserve on Shelter Island. We will gather at the Mashomack Manor House during the peak of the white-tailed deer rut, a truly magical time to be in the woods.
This immersive weekend is about more than just the hunt; it’s about deepening your connection to the land and your community
Tree Climbing 101
Getting an elevated view can change your whole perspective on the woods. It’s a powerful way to connect with the land and a critical skill for many deer hunters.
But let's be honest: even for experienced hunters, climbing safely can feel an intimidating hurdle to overcome. We're here to break down that barrier, together.
Safety is the foundation of every ethical hunt. We know that most hunting-related accidents are falls, and we also know they are preventable. This workshop is dedicated to giving you the knowledge and hands-on practice you need to climb with confidence, supported by experienced mentors who put your well-being first.
This is a safe and supportive space to learn, ask questions, and build skills at your own pace. As with all Kinfolk events, we are committed to creating a welcoming environment for everyone, and we explicitly encourage BIPOC, Queer, and Women-identifying folks to join us.

Firearm Antlerless Deer Hunt
A hunter’s journey often begins with learning to take from the land, but the deeper calling is to learn how to give back. This hunt is an opportunity to do just that. We are inviting a small select group of our experienced mentees to participate in a special management hunt during New York’s early antlerless season—a critical tool for conservation.
This event is a hands-on lesson in stewardship. The primary goal is to support forest regeneration by helping to manage the local deer population. It's a chance to learn firsthand how ethical, regulated hunting plays a vital role in maintaining a healthy and balanced ecosystem.
