How to think about access to your stand/blind the day of the hunt
How to use OnX in the field while scouting
When you should scout
The event will take place on private land in Westchester County on Sat, August 16 starting at 10AM. We will not be providing transportation but will help with coordinating carpools. Lunch will be provided. The Zoom event will happen one evening the week prior to the woods walk.

Hunting & Conservation Trivia Night
Join the Kinfolk Hunting Collective community for an evening of hunting and conservation trivia! Questions will cover hunting, conservation, wild food, NY conservation, and more! There will be prizes for the winning teams and some raffle items as well! Meet your fellow Kinfolk, share a few drinks, and answer some questions!

Firearm Antlerless Deer Hunt
This hunt will be during the NY early antlerless season. The purpose of this hunt is to get more familiar with firearm hunting and to take part in a management hunt meant to lower the population of deer on a habitat to benefit forest regeneration.
This event is for experienced mentees who have been through our other programs and is invite only.

Mashomack Archery Deer Hunt
Ten mentee/mentor pairs will hunt with compound bows for deer, learn how to read deer sign, clean and process deer, meet other local hunters and learn about how to bow hunt for deer. This is a capstone event where we culminate all previous trainings with real-life hunting experience.
The hunt will take place on the beautiful Mashomack Preserve on Shelter Island during the white-tailed deer rut (breeding season) and everyone will be staying at the Mashomack Manor House.
We will have hands on experience with tree stands, deer processing, butchering, wild game cooking (and eating!) as well as some amazing hunts on an amazing property.
Late Season Crossbow Deer Hunt
Participants (mentees and mentors) will stay in an Airbnb near the Albany region of NY (room and board provided at no cost) throughout the duration of the hunt. We will train all aspects of deer hunting, safety and crossbow shooting while building community. We will have lectures from deer biologist, butchering demos and give everyone a holistic experience of deer hunting 101.
All skill levels are welcome, though this hunt is designed with the brand-new hunter in mind! This will be a great opportunity to meet other mentees and mentors. This hunt will also make you available for other more advanced hunts in our programming in future years.

Community Wild Game Dinner
We are in the early stages of planning a wild game dinner and social gathering for all of our mentees and mentors. This is likely going to take place in NYC, but location and details are still being worked out.

Archery and Hunting Skills Day
This is an introductory archery training day. No experience needed! We will have a 40-yard archery range with a mix of 2D and 3D targets. We will provide education for those new to archery shooting, range safety and archery shooting mechanics. We will also have additional outdoor skills training such as how to utilize the OnX mapping system, stations on different types of deer stands, scouting and general outdoor skills day. Bring your own bow + arrows if you have one. Archery equipment will be available for use if you do not have your own equipment. Wear comfortable clothes / shoes, as the trails are rugged and we will be walking over varied terrain for a majority of the course. There will be great food, fun and raffle prizes! This event will serve as preparation for potentially joining one of our upcoming mentored deer hunts!
Participants will learn the basics of how to shoot archery. Stations on different types of deer stands, scouting and general outdoor skills day. Experienced and inexperienced archers are welcome however this day is primarily for folks interested in starting hunting and new to archery. Event participants must all be over the age of 18+. This is a free event, but suggested donations of $25 to help offset cost and continue running additional programming.
Applications are now closed.
