Turkey Camp 2026

There is a unique woodsmanship required to sit still in the spring timber and wait for the first gobble to break the silence—a skill traditionally passed down through closed circles. At Kinfolk Hunting Collective, we are committed to sharing that heritage with those who haven’t yet had an invitation to the woods. We are thrilled to announce our Fourth Annual Turkey Hunt, a weekend dedicated to fostering kinship, building skills, and deepening our connection to the land and our food.

This year, we are welcoming ten mentees to join ten experienced mentors for an immersive, three-day journey into the heart of New York’s turkey season. Whether you’ve never held a shotgun or you’re looking to build your confidence in the field, this weekend is designed for you to learn at your own pace in a space built on mutual respect and safety.

What to Expect:

  • One-on-One Mentorship: You’ll be paired with a seasoned hunter who is committed to your growth, not just the harvest.

  • Firearm & Woodsmanship Skills: We’ll cover safe firearm handling and shotgun patterning, alongside the "quiet skills" of moving through the spring woods undetected.

  • The Full Cycle: From learning to call and set up in the timber to the respectful processing and cleaning of your bird, we honor the entire life cycle of the harvest.

  • Camping: We will be camping on-site for the duration of the event. You’ll learn how to set up camp, manage outdoor gear, and embrace the rhythm of living close to the land.

  • Community & Kinship: Most importantly, you’ll find your people. We’ll share meals, stories, and the quiet camaraderie of a weekend spent together around the campfire.

Everything You Need is Already Here: We believe that gear and cost should never be a barrier to the heritage of the hunt.

  • Zero Cost: This event is entirely free for all participants.

  • Meals Provided: We’ll handle the cooking. All meals from Friday lunch through Sunday lunch are provided.

  • Loaner Gear Available: Don’t have a shotgun or a tent? Don’t worry. We have firearms, camping equipment, and essential hunting gear available to loan for the weekend. Just bring yourself and a willingness to learn.

The Details:

  • When: Friday, May 15th (12:00 PM) – Sunday, May 17th (3:00 PM)

  • Where: Columbia County, NY (Exact location provided upon registration)

  • Who: Open to ten mentees from across New York State.

Requirements for Participation: To ensure a safe and ethical experience for everyone, all participants must:

  1. Complete the NY Hunter Safety Course prior to the event.

  2. Purchase a current NY Hunting License and Turkey Tags.

  3. Commit to the full weekend. Kinship takes time; we require attendance from Friday at noon through Sunday afternoon.

At Kinfolk, you aren't a guest. You're kin. Let's head into the woods together.

This is event is open to all to apply who are 18 and older.

The application deadline is end of day April 28th. We will let you know if you are selected as a mentee or not by April 30th.
