There is a specific kind of magic in the rhythm of a fly rod and the quiet rush of a native trout stream. This April, Kinfolk Hunting Collective is proud to partner with our friends at New York City Trout Unlimited and Brown Folks Fishing for a day dedicated to the art, ethics, and stewardship of fly fishing.
Whether you’ve never held a fly rod or you’re looking to build confidence on the water, this day is for you. We believe the river belongs to everyone, and we’re here to ensure you feel at home on it.
Our day begins riverside with an introduction to the "why" of fly fishing—exploring the connection between the angler, the insect life, and the health of our waters. We’ll cover the basics of gear and technique before pairing each participant with an experienced mentor.
You’ll spend your afternoon in 1:1 mentorship, learning to read the water and target wild brown and rainbow trout. To ensure meaningful instruction and respect for the river’s space, we are capping this event at 8 mentees.
Conservation is at the heart of what we do. Preference for this event will be given to those who also participate in the Tree Planting Event occurring prior to the session.
All confirmed participants will receive a "Basics of the Fly" curriculum via email beforehand, so we can spend less time talking and more time fishing once we hit the water.
The Essentials
Requirements: A valid New York State fishing license is mandatory.
Food: Please bring a packed lunch and snacks for a DIY riverside break.
Travel: For those coming from the city, take the Metro-North to Katonah. From there, it is a short taxi/rideshare to the meeting spot.

This event is open to all 18 years and older.
