The land and waters provide for us, and Arbor Day is our chance to return the favor.
Join the Kinfolk Hunting Collective and NYC Trout Unlimited on April 25th for an Arbor Day Tree Planting along the banks of the Amawalk / Muscoot River. We’re excited to get our hands into the dirt to help protect these vital waterways.
By planting native trees, we aren't just putting roots in the ground; we are preventing erosion, cooling the water, and ensuring that our local wild-trout streams remain healthy for generations to come.
Give Back, Then Cast a Line After we finish the planting, the afternoon is yours to enjoy. This is a spectacular wild-trout stream, and there will be plenty of time to fly fish and enjoy the very habitat we’re working to protect. We are also hosting a mentored fly fishing event immediately after for 8 mentees. You can apply to be a mentee on the event page.
What to Bring: To make the day a success, please come prepared with:
Gear: Work clothes, gloves, and sturdy boots.
Protection: Bug spray (ticks are active!) and sunscreen.
Fuel: A packed lunch and plenty of water.
Tools: We have shovels and pry bars, but if you have your own favorite digging tools, please bring them along!
Permit: A valid NYC DEP Access Permit is required for this location. They are free and available online through the NYC DEP website. If you plan to fish after make sure you have your NY Fishing License!
Whether you’re a seasoned steward of the land or looking for your first opportunity to get involved in local conservation, we welcome you. Let’s keep our waters wild.
This event is open to all 18 and older.
